A Break for Caregivers, Continued Comfort for Patients

Respite care provides short-term relief for family caregivers. Your loved one receives professional care in a comfortable inpatient setting while you take time to rest and recharge.

Taking Care of the Caregiver

Understanding Respite

Taking Care of the Caregiver

Caring for a loved one with a serious illness is physically and emotionally demanding. Respite care recognizes that caregivers need support too. Under the Medicare Hospice Benefit, patients can receive up to five consecutive days of inpatient respite care in a Medicare-approved facility. During respite, the patient continues to receive all necessary hospice services. Family caregivers can use this time to rest, attend to personal needs, or simply take a break — knowing their loved one is in good hands.
